So you've decided you want to reduce your next event's carbon footprint and want to know how to go about it? Well, GreenPowering your event is as easy as 1, 2, 3!
Step 1. Calculate your event's energy usage
The first thing you need to do is calculate what the energy usage of your event will be, which you can do using our Event Energy Usage Calculator.
If your event is a typical presentation or seminar style event with less than 70 people you can use the first page of this calculator to gauge what your consumption will be. This takes less than one minute. Easy.
If you are holding a different style or larger event this initial page will direct you through to a detailed calculator that takes things such as the lighting, audio visual systems, air conditioning and heating and even the catering to be used into account to give you an accurate picture of how much energy your event will use.
Step 2. Identify the GreenPower Providers that offer GreenPower accredited products in your area.
Once you have identified your event’s energy usage, the next step is to identify the GreenPower Providers that can assist you in GreenPowering your event.
You can do this by simply entering which area your event is to be held into the Find a Provider function and this list will identify two types of GreenPower Providers that can assist you.
The first is the energy retailers that provide GreenPower products in your area. If you would like to get your GreenPower through your current, or another listed, electricity retailer you just have to give them a call to set things up.
The second way is to purchase your GreenPower through a decoupled GreenPower Provider, which are identified by a green star in the Find a Provider function. Decoupled GreenPower Providers do not retail grid electricity to customers, just the portion of GreenPower that a customer wishes to purchase.
Either way you decide to go, more accredited GreenPower is added to the grid and your event will be using zero emissions electricity.
Step 3. Purchase the equivalent amount of GreenPower.
Once you have identified your event’s energy usage and the GreenPower Provider you wish to purchase the GreenPower from, all you have to do is purchase the equivalent amount of accredited GreenPower and you’re done.
And don’t forget, once you have GreenPowered your event you are eligible to apply to use the GreenPower Event Logo on your event materials to promote your efforts to reduce your event’s impact on the environment.
