Why don’t they put the cost of coal power up instead so people who support coal power can subsidise the environmental impacts?

State and territory governments in Australia recognise the importance of addressing climate change, and are considering a range of effective policy responses to ensure a flexible way of achieving greenhouse gas abatement. One of the solutions might be a national emissions trading scheme (NETS), which would be first applied to the electricity markets if introduced.  However, in the absence of such a scheme, one way for us to ensure investment continues into renewable energy is to buy GreenPower accredited renewable energy.

Energy retailers offer GreenPower to their customers so they can exercise a choice to support renewable energy and determine how much they can afford. In this way, customers who purchase GreenPower directly influence the level of investment in renewable energy.
