Executive summary
When you choose GreenPower, you can be confident you're buying independently accredited renewable energy from entirely renewable sources.
For people and businesses who want to reduce their use of fossil fuels, the variety of renewable energy options can be confusing – especially when there seems to be little difference between them. When you choose GreenPower, you are buying independently accredited renewable energy from 100% renewable sources.
GreenPower is the only voluntary renewable energy accreditation program managed by the government. Our goals include:
Encouraging Australian households, businesses and events to use 100% renewable energy
Creating confidence among consumers in their choice of credible renewable energy
Increasing investment in the Australian renewable energy sector
Decreasing greenhouse gas emissions from electricity generation.
How is GreenPower different?
GreenPower has been around for more than 20 years. It’s different from other renewable energy accreditation programs in several important ways.
When you buy GreenPower, your renewable energy and carbon reduction is independently assured and verified – it’s the only government-managed voluntary accreditation program.
GreenPower is available direct from most energy retailers, so you may not need to switch providers – simply ask for GreenPower from your existing retailer.
GreenPower renewable energy comes from 100% renewable sources (such as wind, solar, mini-hydro and bioenergy), and the money goes to creating more renewable energy projects and jobs.
How is GreenPower governed?
The GreenPower Program is the most highly regarded standard for offsite renewables in Australia. The program is governed by the National GreenPower Steering Group (NGPSG), which is comprised of the governments of New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria; with the governments of the Australian Capital Territory, Northern Territory, Queensland and Tasmania as observers.
