Who we are
GreenPower was established in 1997 and is the only voluntary government accreditation scheme for renewable energy in Australia.
The NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water is the Program Manager and administrator for GreenPower on behalf of the National GreenPower Steering Group (NGPSG). The NGPSG includes representatives from state and territory governments around Australia.
Currently making up the NGPSG are New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia.
Our history
GreenPower was established in 1997 by the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) in NSW. The program was developed through consultation with the energy industry, and non-government organisations including the Australian Consumers Association (now CHOICE), Greenpeace, the Australian Conservation Foundation and the World Wide Fund for Nature.
The GreenPower program continues to work closely with key stakeholders and set up a Stakeholder Advisory Group as a forum for discussing its operations and keeping up to date with market trends.
