GreenPower accredited electricity retailers

Electricity retailers can apply to become GreenPower Providers ("Providers"). This means, if they meet our strict accreditation criteria, they can offer GreenPower products to their business and household customers and use the GreenPower logo to market these products.

To offer GreenPower, Providers must purchase energy from GreenPower accredited renewable energy generators. The GreenPower Program conducts stringent audits to ensure the amount of renewable energy purchased by the Provider exactly matches the amount their customers have purchased from them.

GreenPower accredited electricity generators

GreenPower ensures the energy you are buying is helping to develop new renewable energy infrastructure. Under the National GreenPower Accreditation Program, a GreenPower Generator is defined as 'an electricity generator that results in greenhouse gas emission reductions (within the electricity sector). Renewable energy must come from wind, solar, hydro and bioenergy generators that meet the standards specified in the GreenPower Program Rules.

Some types of energy generation not allowed in the GreenPower accredited scheme include:

  • Pre-existing renewable energy generation prior to 1997
  • Hydro power where significant river diversions have taken place as part of the hydro station being built
  • Biomass using native rainforests
  • Coal seam gas
  • All types of non-renewable generation including coal fired, natural gas, oil, and nuclear.
